NACS247Day – 7/24 – Thank a Hero!

Thank You CHIEF GREG LINN of the Lewisport KY Police!

What was your most memorable or impactful moment in your career?
“An experience that was particularly memorable was dealing with children that are victims.  Like a 911 call that impacted me when I responded to a family disturbance and a young girl that was four five is crying. I ask her what was wrong. She responded. I’m hungry. I cleared the call and left returning a short time later with a pizza for that young girl. There are many other memories, but this one event was impactful.”

What inspired you to become a First Responder & motivates you to continue?

“Not to sound cliché, but this truly matters – service above self, this still motivates me after 35 years.”

What challenges have you faced in your role, and how have you overcome them?

Challenges to save someone from themselves.  Mental resilience is a must to help with challenges. Faith and gratefulness is what I rely on to overcome the challenges, as well as a little bit of humor.

How has your role as a First Responder impacted your personal like and perspective?

“Seeing the world in a different light has changed my perspective in good and bad ways. Some of the bad people can lie, steal still, and worse, with no remorse.  This can affect your outlook on society in negative ways. This can at times make me very cynical and impatient in my personal life.  Some of the good – realizing that there is much more good than bad in people – especially in a crisis. This renews my hope in society and my commitment to my community.”

What message would you like to share with the community and those aspiring to become First Responders?

“2 things – 1st. Treat people the way you would want to be treated (without compromising anyone’s safety). and 2nd. Remember, it’s not about you.”

Thank You MISTY HIXSON, First Responder Goshen Ohio!

What was your most memorable or impactful moment in your career?

“One year-old child sees parents call 911 stating their child had a seizure.  Upon arriving the child was alert and responding to personnel. The child had no further seizure activity while in care of first responders and acted appropriately.  The crew members tended to the first time parents calming them down, as well as for caring for the child.”

What inspired you to become a First Responder & motivates you to continue?

“I was always interested in sirens and the trucks, and after doing a ride along, I decided this was the career path I wanted to take.  Taking care of people on their worst day. Being the hand someone holds.  Being there for those who are alone motivates me to continue.”

What challenges have you faced in your role, and how have you overcome them?

“Paramedic school had an insane amount of challenges, but my family and coworkers were there to cheer me up and I pushed through.”

How has your role as a First Responder impacted your personal like and perspective?

“Being a First Responder comes with a lot of sacrifice.  Family, and friends had to adapt to me not being home on holidays.  Or when I was running out the door in the middle of the dinner, and other family time, to go help another family during their emergency.”

What message would you like to share with the community and those aspiring to become First Responders?

“Being a first responder comes with a lot of reward, but also hard calls and sacrifice. There will always be days you wanna quit or wonder why you do this job, but when the tone drops, you pick yourself up and get on the truck to go help those in need.  You are their saving grace in their time of need.  This job is hard, but is so worth it.”

Thank You RUSSELL ROUF, LaGrange KY First Responder!

What was your most memorable or impactful moment in your career?

“While on patrol on a cold snowy night in Lagrange, I heard a small dog barking non-stop.  I located the poor puppy.  He was tethered to a clothes line and became tangled up stuck in the snow. The little older lady that owned him was standing in the doorway crying that she couldn’t get him.  I hopped out of my cruiser and rescued the little guy, reuniting him with his ‘mom’. She was super thankful!!!”
